6/8/09 - Another good year for Ozstravaganza
“Everybody has to be born somewhere and some people think if you're born in a small town you can't go out and do much but here we know that just because you were born in small town doesn't mean you can't go out and do great things."
6/6/09 - Oz-Stravaganza continues
Oz-Stravaganza continues in the Village of Chittenango. Hundreds lined Genesee Street Saturday to watch the annual parade.
6/5/09 - Let the Oz-Stravaganza begin

Oz Theatre
6/25/09 - Ashanti Takes on the Wizard of Oz...Sort Of
Ashanti is doing just fine, but watching her must makes me wish producers would start to look to the world of undiscovered talent who can act, sing, and kick for Jesus instead of leaving some perfectly sweet little A-list singer out on that bare stage.
6/23/09 - Oswego Children’s Theater’s “The Road to Oz” Features a Large Cast of Adults and Youth
The Road to Oz” was adapted for the stage by Wayne Mosher Jr., who also wrote the music and lyrics. The show is directed by Lyndsie Lee Jones. The stage manager is Kevin Murtha.
6/23/09 - The Wiz: Road Show
It's Joshua Henry's Tinman who threatens to steal the show; first with a jaunty song and dance performance of "Slide Some Oil To Me," and later with a thrillingly heartfelt, "What Would I Do If I Could Feel?"
6/22/09 - The Wiz Review By: Michael Patrick Hearn
It is only in the last moments of the show that Ashanti is left on her own to return to Kansas. She fills the theater with her strong reaffirming rendition of "Home." What could be a more fitting way to send the audience home, cheering for The Wiz.
6/21/09 - Critics chime in on 'The Wiz'
Reviewers generally were cooler toward “The Wiz,” and few had much love for above-the-title leads Ashanti and Orlando Jones.
6/20/09 - Ashanti’s Dorothy, Nigel’s Toto Ease Into New ‘Wiz’
As Dorothy, Ashanti sings pleasingly enough, but she isn’t much of an actress, her posture often listless and her expression a frequently frozen blank.
6/19/09 - Bland "Wiz" unlikely to ease on down to Broadway
Although there are undeniably clever touches -- like the Munchkins being full-heighted performers rolling around on wheeled chairs -- other devices, like representing the Yellow Brick Road with yellow light bulbs, don't exactly evoke wonder.
6/19/09 - Not in Kansas, or This Century: Back on That Road to the ’70s
The first big number, in which a human tornado whisks away Dorothy’s home piece by piece, suggests a dance interpretation of “Extreme Home Makeover” as performed by the Solid Gold Dancers.
6/18/09 - A Broadway classic hits the yellow road again
Maybe the tuner’s initial success had less to do with artistic merit than uncanny timing: hitting the stage at the height of the black-is-beautiful movement. In the age of Obama, is the show archaic?
6/16/09 - Ashanti Gets Her Brand New Day in ‘The Wiz’
"It was a little bit before my time, but my family members definitely let me in on the big musicals. My cousin used to make us watch the DVD down in the basement of my aunt’s house. I was well aware by the time I was probably about eight years old."
6/12/09 - Ashanti eases on down the road in 'The Wiz'
"When I'm singing someone else's (songs), I got to remember — you know — the lyrics!" says Ashanti, who studied up on the role by listening to recordings by Stephanie Mills, who starred in the original 1975 production.
6/5/09 - Innovative version of classic tale
A WICKED witch driving a yellow bus and a street busker who becomes a scarecrow are just some of the colourful characters in a new and highly imaginative version of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
6/5/09 - The Wiz Gets a Second Wizard: Passing Strange Star Colman Domingo
Colman Domingo, one of the stars of the 2008 Broadway musical Passing Strange, will replace Orlando Jones in the role of The Wizard for the final six performances.
6/3/09 - She’ll put a spell on you
"I think that we’re really not doing Wizard of Oz at all. Because the point of Wicked is that the story that was told of the Wizard of Oz maybe isn’t even the true story. That story is seen through the eyes of Dorothy, so that’s a whole other thing."
Oz Music

6/30/09 - Twisted Sister raids the vaults for bonus tracks on 'Stay Hungry' deluxe edition
There's a hidden track in which Dee Snider sings "Lollipop Guild" from "The Wizard of Oz" through a vocal processor to make him sound like a Munchkin, which itself is worth the price of the album.

Oz in Print
6/28/09 - Finding the influences that formed The Wonderful Wizard of Oz author
This biography of Baum by Evan Schwartz, a former editor at Business Week, can be plodding in its telling and is usually pedestrian in its prose. Schwartz's style can be described as businesslike.
6/26/09 - Frank Baum, the Man Behind the Curtain
It seems incredible that one man injected all these concepts into our cultural consciousness. Wouldn’t we all be forever lost without “there’s no place like home,” the mantra that turns everything right side up and returns life to normalcy?
