"We try to do one fun special event in the summer,'' said Karen Jo White, library assistant in the children's room. "This summer we decided to do something with the `Wizard of Oz' because it had so much potential.''

8/20/08 - County's State Fair exhibit 'Ozstanding'
The interactive exhibit features the characters Dorothy and Toto from the classic children's novel, The Wizard of Oz, skipping along a path of yellow corn kernels, Yolo County's highest-grossing field crop, leading to the "Wizard of Ag."

Judy Garland's daughter and a medley from "Wicked" kicked off the Redlands Bowl's 85th season in June. The season's theme, "there's no place like home," continues tonight with the dress rehearsal for "The Wizard of Oz."

Theatre tourism is a huge drawcard for Melbourne – A$10 million in Wicked tickets have sold already, more than a quarter from outside Victoria, and producers are hoping the production will run for several years, bringing more of the 6.7 million visitors.

Raleigh Little Theatre's Teens on Stage production of Ozma of Oz: A Tale of Time is a lovely piece of all-ages entertainment, loosely adapted from one of the many sequels L. Frank Baum wrote for The Wizard of Oz by family playwright Suzan Zeder.
7/24/08 - A tale of two witches
Perhaps the biggest surprise comes from two former Australian Idolers Rob Mills, as male lead Fiyero, and Anthony Callea as a perfectly cast munchkin. Both hold their own with strong vocals - Callea particularly has a voice that seems perfect for theatre.

"What's difficult for us is finding the physicality of the characters - and sustaining that throughout the evening is going to be tough, especially with the costumes."

With its green-faced witch, flying monkeys and oppressed helium-voiced Munchkins, L. Frank Baum’s story is a grotesque creation beneath its candy coating. As theatre, it makes an odd and irksomely slow experience.

Australian Idol favourites Anthony Callea and Rob Mills surprise in their roles as Boq and Fiyero respectively. It's a shame Anthony doesn't get his own song, as his performance is extremely well projected and note perfect.

Broadway in Utah, producer David Stone and a video message from composer Stephen Schwartz introduced us to a musical that, frankly, needs no introduction.

One of Australia's great theatres, the Regent, described as "Hollywood extravaganza", is well worth a visit, especially if you are a lover of grandiose interior decor.

"The second I saw this property I knew it was a one of kind, diamond in the rough. You could feel Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, and the whole Rat Pack hanging out in the cabana. Not to mention that Judy Garland also lived here at one time… amazing!"
8/20/08 - Future Warner Home Video Restorations Revealed
The magnificent 1954 version of A Star Is Born, with Judy Garland and James Mason. It's a 6K restoration that we're doing. That's one of the earliest CinemaScope movies and it's a masterpiece, as far as we're concerned.

We asked Adam Levy of the Honeydogs to pick a familiar story and use that as a starting point for a set of lyrics. The story he chose is the "The Wizard of Oz." Next we asked three professional music acts to take Levy's lyrics and turn them into a song.

The troubled singer is working on the follow up to her Grammy award winning album Back to Black and has been inspired by the 1939 Judy Garland film. Along with the title theme, famous songs from the musical include Over the Rainbow.

Dorothy will step out in footwear studded with red Swarovski crystals; the only shoes fit for walking on Swarovski-studded sets and interacting with "Good Witch" Glinda in her crystal-drenched dress.
8/1/08 - NASA craft probes ice on Mars
Boynton uncorked a bottle of champagne and announced he was dubbing the ice sample the "Wicked Witch of the West," after the character in the Wizard of Oz who melted away. Then Boynton - ever the comic - donned a flamboyant ragged black witch's hat.
